French outfit Olympique Marseille have reached an agreement with West Ham United to secure the signing of Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd.
The 29-year-old centre-back is set for a return to Ligue 1, where he previously featured for Dijon and Stade Rennais before joining the Hammers in 2022. Last season, he spent time on loan at Real Sociedad and has now been deemed surplus to requirements under Graham Potter.
Marseille have been in the market for defensive reinforcements, despite already bringing in CJ Egan-Riley from Burnley on a free transfer and Facundo Medina on loan from RC Lens. However, Medina is currently sidelined through injury and is only expected back after the international break.
Aguerd will sign a five-year contract with the French club, where manager Roberto De Zerbi hopes his experience and composure will help stabilise a backline that has struggled in the opening weeks of the season.
