Marseille Consider Move for Out-of-Contract Mouhamadou Dabo
Olympique de Marseille are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Mouhamadou Dabo, who is currently a free agent after his contract with Olympique Lyonnais expired.
The 28-year-old defender, who can operate on both flanks, is said to be keen on a move where he can secure more regular first-team football, having grown frustrated with a lack of playing time at Lyon. According to sources close to the club, Marseille have initiated contact with Dabo’s representatives as they look to strengthen their defensive depth ahead of the new season.
Dabo, a former French youth international of Senegalese descent, is no stranger to Ligue 1. He began his professional career with Saint-Étienne before moving to Spanish side Sevilla in 2010. He returned to France with Lyon two years later, but injuries and competition for places limited his opportunities at the Groupama Stadium.
Marseille are reportedly keen to add experience and versatility to their backline, particularly as coach Marcelo Bielsa seeks dependable cover for full-backs Benjamin Mendy and Brice Dja Djédjé. Dabo, who can play as a right-back or left-back, fits that profile well.
The club’s recruitment team is believed to view Dabo as a low-risk, cost-effective option given his free-agent status. Discussions are underway, and a decision could be made in the coming days.
If signed, Dabo would bring valuable experience to OM’s squad as the club looks to remain competitive in Ligue 1 following the departures of key players this summer.
