Greek giants Olympiacos have finalized the signing of Nigerian international Bruno Onyemaechi from Boavista for a reported fee of €2.5 million, pending medical examinations and paperwork.
The 25-year-old defender arrived in Athens on Thursday to complete medical tests and sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with the reigning Europa Conference League champions, according to Greek outlet Parapolitika.
Olympiacos secured Onyemaechi’s services amid strong competition from European heavyweights Benfica and Fenerbahce.
Both clubs made late attempts to hijack the deal, with Trabzonspor and unnamed French sides also expressing interest earlier in the transfer window.
Onyemaechi leaves Boavista after a productive spell in Portugal, where he made 77 appearances, scored five goals, and provided four assists since joining in 2020.
This season, the defender played all 18 league matches for Boavista, contributing three goals and one assist, solidifying his reputation as a reliable performer.
His move comes after a standout 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, where he played a vital role in Nigeria’s run to the final.
Boavista reportedly sought to include a percentage of any future transfer profit as part of the agreement with Olympiacos.
