Lazio Midfielder Ogenyi Onazi Open to Liverpool Move
Nigeria international Ogenyi Onazi has admitted he would welcome a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool at the top of his wish list.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the Lazio midfielder made no secret of his admiration for the Merseyside club.
“If the opportunity to go to Liverpool presented itself to me, then I could not say no,” said Onazi. “It’s a club I’ve always followed.”
According to reports, Liverpool have been monitoring the 22-year-old and may be preparing a bid to lure him to Anfield. The deal could potentially involve Italian striker Fabio Borini heading in the opposite direction. Borini, who began his career in Italy and returned to Liverpool in 2012, has struggled for form, failing to score in 10 appearances this season.
Onazi has made an impressive return to form with Lazio in Serie A this campaign, after recovering from a serious injury scare during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The midfielder was on the receiving end of a dangerous challenge by France’s Blaise Matuidi during the Round of 16 clash, an incident that temporarily raised fears of long-term damage. Fortunately, Onazi was back in training just two weeks later.
A dynamic and hardworking presence in central midfield, Onazi has become a key figure at Lazio since breaking into the first team in 2012. His blend of energy, discipline, and international experience makes him an attractive prospect for Premier League clubs.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are known to be seeking midfield reinforcements as they continue to rebuild under manager Brendan Rodgers. Whether a formal offer will be made remains to be seen, but Onazi’s interest has certainly been made clear.
