French club OGC Nice have reportedly reached an agreement with African champions Al Ahly for the summer transfer of Egypt international center-back Mohamed Abdelmonem.
Initially, Al Ahly rejected two offers from Nice, holding out for a deal closer to their USD6 million asking price.
However, it appears both clubs have now agreed on a deal worth 4 million Euros, with an additional 1 million Euros in performance-based bonuses.
This transfer, once finalized, will see Abdelmonem sign a contract with Nice until the summer of 2028, marking him as the first-ever Egyptian to represent the French club.
Abdelmonem is expected to fill the gap left by Jean-Clair Todibo, who recently moved to West Ham on loan with an obligation to buy.
The 25-year-old Abdelmonem has been a crucial figure for Al Ahly, helping them secure back-to-back CAF Champions League titles.
At Nice, he will likely partner with veteran Brazilian defender Dante and youngster Antoine Mendy in a three-man backline under the guidance of French manager Franck Haise.
This move makes Abdelmonem the fourth summer signing for Nice, following the acquisitions of Jonathan Clauss, Morgan Sanson, and Tanguy Ndombélé.
With Abdelmonem’s departure, Al Ahly is expected to enter the transfer market to find a new center-back, with head coach Marcel Koller reportedly keen on signing a foreign player to fill the void.
The Egyptian club is already considering options, despite having Rami Rabia, Yasser Ibrahim, and new Qatari defender Youssef Ayman in their ranks.
