OGC Nice draw line under Mohamed Abdelmonem transfer speculation

OGC Nice have confirmed they have received no formal offers for Mohamed Abdelmonem and have ruled out transferring the defender, despite uncertainty surrounding his future after an injury-hit 2025-26 season.

The French club’s management has made clear that Abdelmonem is not currently available for a move. No proposal has been formally submitted for the Egypt international, and OGC Nice do not intend to consider a transfer at this stage.

Abdelmonem’s 2025-26 campaign was severely disrupted by injury. The 27-year-old suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury before later sustaining an ankle sprain, leaving him with a blank season.

His absence meant that his first season under consideration at OGC Nice was dominated by rehabilitation rather than regular involvement on the pitch. The club’s latest position indicates that, despite the interruption to his progress, they continue to regard him as part of their plans.

Abdelmonem returned to training at the end of July after making only a brief appearance at the World Cup. His return marked the next stage in his recovery, although the available information does not indicate that he has yet resumed a full competitive role for OGC Nice.

The defender joined the French club in 2024 in a deal worth €5.2m, including bonuses. He remains under contract with OGC Nice, giving the club a clear contractual basis for its decision not to transfer him.

Formal discussions with Abdelmonem’s representatives are expected to begin shortly. Those talks will focus on establishing how his future can be organised in the OGC Nice shirt through to 2028.

The discussions are therefore expected to address his place within the club’s longer-term plans rather than a possible departure. OGC Nice’s current stance is that there is no transfer to negotiate, with the club instead preparing to discuss the defender’s continued future in France.

For Abdelmonem, the immediate priority is to rebuild his fitness after a season in which injuries prevented him from making a sustained contribution. His return to training at the end of July provides the latest indication of his progress following the cruciate ligament problem and ankle injury.

The club’s confirmation also removes any immediate doubt over whether Abdelmonem could leave during the current period. With no formal offer received and a transfer categorically excluded by OGC Nice, attention will now turn to the forthcoming meetings with his representatives.
