OGC Nice close in on Ghana’s Alidu Seidu deal, agreement could be sealed within 24 hours

OGC Nice are closing in on a deal to sign Rennes defender Alidu Seidu on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The transfer is expected to be formalized within the next 24 hours, with a medical scheduled for later this week on the Côte d’Azur, per reports.

The 26-year-old Ghanaian international is permitted to switch clubs outside the standard transfer window under France’s unique “joker” transfer rules.

This emergency regulatory loop-hole allows French teams to sign one player registered with another domestic club after the regular market closes.

Nice moved swiftly into the market following a severe ACL injury to fullback Antoine Mendy earlier this month.

Nice owners INEOS have given the final financial green light for the deal to progress after positive talks regarding wage distribution.

Negotiations between the two Ligue 1 clubs moved quickly over the last 48 hours to secure the versatile defender, who can play across the backline.

Seidu joined Rennes from Clermont Foot in early 2024 but has seen his playing time fluctuate, making him open to a fresh challenge.

If the remaining paperwork and medical examinations are completed without any late complications, the black-and-reds hope to have him registered immediately.

The club aims to include Seidu in the squad for their upcoming domestic fixture against Lille this weekend.
