The Senegalese referee, Issa Ciss, annulled one of the most splendid goals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations 2023, possibly marking a controversial moment in the tournament’s history, citing an offside against Baghdad Bounedjah.
Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah netted a goal, giving the Desert Warriors the lead after 18 minutes against Angola.
Seven minutes later, he scored a “double kick,” only to have the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) spoil his celebration by revealing his offside position.
Replays and offside lines confirmed the VAR’s decision to disallow Bounedjah’s goal.
The Algerian national team competes in Group Four, alongside Angola, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso, in the current Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
