Morocco defender Redouane Halhal completes Venezia move on five-year deal

Serie A newcomers Venezia have completed the signing of Morocco international Redouane Halhal, with the defender committing his future to the Italian club until 30 June 2030.

The transfer was confirmed by Venezia on Saturday, marking the latest step in the 23-year-old’s career following his spell with Belgian side KV Mechelen.

Announcing the arrival of the centre-back, the Italian club welcomed its newest addition with the message: “Welcome to the Orange, Black and Green, Redouane!”

Halhal joins Venezia after an impressive campaign in Belgium, where he made 34 appearances for KV Mechelen, contributing one goal and two assists from defence.

The move comes as Venezia prepare for life back in Serie A after securing promotion by winning the Serie B title ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The defender’s career has taken him through several European leagues.

He began his development in the academy of Montpellier before moving to Atlético Madrid during the 2023-24 season.

In the summer of 2024, Halhal joined Dutch club Helmond Sport, where he featured in 32 matches and scored once before earning a move to Belgium with KV Mechelen the following season.

His consistent performances helped establish him as one of the club’s key defenders and paved the way for his transfer to Italy.

At international level, Halhal has represented Morocco across several age groups.

He featured for the Atlas Lions’ Under-20 and Under-23 teams before making the step up to the senior national side.

The defender has now earned five senior international caps, including two appearances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

During the tournament, he started Morocco’s matches against Canada and Haiti, further strengthening his reputation on the international stage.

Speaking after completing the transfer, Halhal explained that Venezia’s long-term vision convinced him to make the move.

“Joining Venezia FC is a fantastic opportunity and a choice I made with enthusiasm,” he said.

The Moroccan international also revealed that he was “immediately seduced” by the ambitious sporting project presented by Venezia sporting director Filippo Antonelli.

Halhal will now begin the next chapter of his career in Italy, where Venezia hope his experience across France, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium will strengthen their squad as they prepare for their return to Serie A.
