South African trainer Pitso Mosimane has officially taken the reins as head coach of Iranian giants Esteghlal FC, one of the Persian Gulf Pro League’s most prestigious teams.
His appointment comes after the club’s disappointing start to the season, leaving them in 11th place out of 16 teams after seven games.
Mosimane, a three-time CAF Champions League-winning coach, brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong track record, having achieved success in African and Middle Eastern football.
Esteghlal, a club rich in history with nine domestic league titles and two AFC Champions League crowns, turned to Mosimane to turn their fortunes around.
He replaces Iranian football legend Javad Nekounam, whose tenure was cut short following the poor performances.
Mosimane will be accompanied by his trusted team, including assistant coach Maahier Davids, strength and conditioning coach Kabelo Rangoaga, and analysts Musi Matlaba and Kyle Solomon.
The South African tactician’s first major task will be guiding Esteghlal in the AFC Champions League, where they are in a highly competitive Group B, facing Saudi giants Al Hilal, Al Nassr, and his former club Al Ahli.
Mosimane’s appointment brings new hope to the club and its passionate supporters as they aim to rise back to the top.
