Pelé Ilombe Mboyo, the Belgian striker of Congolese origin, has signed a three-year contract with Racing Club de Genk. This move comes as positive news for Mboyo, especially after learning that his partner was out of danger following a traffic accident the previous Sunday.
Mboyo expressed his enthusiasm about joining Genk, stating, “A transfer to a top club aiming for the title is obviously a great progression in my career. I hope I will satisfy the club and the supporters by scoring a lot of goals, whether in the Belgian championship or in the Europa League.”
It’s worth noting that Mboyo had been in contact with West Ham, but the English club withdrew from the negotiations after a survey conducted by the son of the club’s owner. The survey aimed to gauge fan sentiment regarding the recruitment of a player with a history of being in prison. The results of the survey likely played a role in West Ham’s decision.
Pelé Ilombe Mboyo has previously played for Charleroi and Kortrijk in the Jupiler Pro League, and he featured for Gent in the last season.
