FRANCK ETOUNDI’S TRANSFER TO BASTIA COLLAPSES AFTER LAST-MINUTE SALARY DEMANDS
What seemed like a done deal has fallen through — Franck Etoundi will not be joining Sporting Bastia after all. The Cameroonian international striker, currently with FC Zurich, was expected to make the move to Corsica following an agreement in principle on a €500,000 transfer and a three-year contract.
However, the Corsican club released a statement on Saturday confirming the breakdown of negotiations, citing a last-minute salary hike demanded by the player and his entourage as the reason.
“Despite the agreement in principle reached on Friday with the player and his advisors on the basis of a 3-year contract for a transfer fee of €500,000, and while Franck Etoundi was expected in Bastia today to undergo the traditional medical examination, a last-minute attempt at a higher salary, coming from the player and his entourage, caused a breakdown in all negotiations on the part of Sporting,” read the statement.
As a result, Etoundi will remain at FC Zurich, where he continues to be under contract. Bastia, meanwhile, will likely resume its search for attacking reinforcements.
