Moroccan Defender Marouane Da Costa Joins Olympiacos
Moroccan international Marouane Da Costa has completed his move to Greek champions Olympiacos, the club confirmed on its official website.
The 29-year-old centre-back joins the Piraeus-based side on a two-year contract after spending the past two seasons in Turkey with Sivasspor. The transfer marks Da Costa’s first venture into Greek football and adds another chapter to his diverse European career.
“I’ve joined a big club,” Da Costa said during his unveiling. “I know Olympiacos is one of the major clubs in Europe. The organisation, the people working here, the staff — everything shows that this is a great team.”
A product of the AS Nancy-Lorraine academy in France, Da Costa has played in several of Europe’s top leagues. His career has included spells in Italy with Fiorentina and Sampdoria, in England with West Ham United, in Russia with Lokomotiv Moscow, in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, and in Portugal with CD Nacional — his father’s homeland.
Capped eight times by Morocco, Da Costa will become the third Moroccan to wear the Olympiacos jersey, following in the footsteps of Abdessalam Ouaddou and Jaouad Zairi.
His signing is seen as a move to reinforce the Greek champions’ defensive line as they prepare for domestic and European challenges in the new season.
