Jordan Ayew Completes Move from Marseille to Lorient
Jordan Ayew has officially left Olympique de Marseille, signing a four-year contract with Ligue 1 side Lorient. The Ghanaian striker, who was not part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for the new season, becomes the highly anticipated signing for Lorient president Loïc Féry.
Jordan follows in the footsteps of his older brother André Ayew, who spent the 2008–2009 season on loan at Lorient, making 24 appearances and scoring three goals. Having come through Marseille’s youth ranks, Jordan struggled to cement a regular first-team spot at the club. Last season, he spent six months on loan at Sochaux, where he scored five goals in 17 matches, performances that earned him a place in Ghana’s 23-man squad for the World Cup.
During his time at Marseille, Jordan featured in 111 Ligue 1 matches and netted 14 goals, while also scoring four goals in 23 European Cup appearances.
Upon signing for Lorient, Ayew expressed his enthusiasm for the move: “The style and quality of play here suit me perfectly. I am also very impressed by the club’s infrastructure, which will help us train effectively and progress. I will try to bring my experience to the group to help achieve the collective objectives set by the club.”
At Lorient, Ayew is expected to form a potent attacking partnership with Cameroonian forward Vincent Aboubakar, provided the latter remains with the club.
This transfer marks a new chapter for Jordan Ayew as he seeks to revive his career and make a lasting impact in France’s top flight.
