The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the injury of their player Taha Yassine Khnissi with a cruciate ligament tear.
The federation posted on its Facebook account, “Following the injury he sustained in our match against Namibia, player Taha Yassine Khnissi underwent MRI scans Wednesday morning, confirming his injury to the inner cruciate ligament of the knee.”
Tunisia’s national team suffered a setback in their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations, losing 1-0 to Namibia on Tuesday, during which Khnissi was injured.
The statement further mentioned that the injury “will prevent Taha Yassine Khnissi from continuing to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations.
We wish our player a speedy recovery and a quick return to the field.”
Tunisia is currently competing in Group F of the Africa Cup of Nations, alongside Mali, South Africa, and Namibia.
The team is set to face Mali on Saturday, January 20, in the second round of the group stage.
The Tunisian national team will conclude the group stage on Wednesday, January 24, with a match against South Africa.
The absence of Khnissi, a key player, will undoubtedly be a considerable loss for Tunisia, and the team will now need to adjust its strategies moving forward in the tournament.
