Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant ruled out of Paderborn’s clash against Borussia Monchengladbach
SC Paderborn will remain without Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant for Saturday’s Bundesliga away fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach as the defender continues his recovery from a lengthy knee injury.
The 26-year-old centre-back has returned to full team training after several months on the sidelines but remains short of match fitness, preventing him from being considered for the upcoming encounter.
Paderborn confirmed his continued absence ahead of the match, with the defender still requiring additional time to regain his physical condition before returning to competitive action.
Awortwie-Grant suffered a knee ligament injury in July and has yet to make his competitive debut for Paderborn since joining the club. His recovery has progressed gradually, with the coaching staff keen to avoid rushing him back after such a prolonged spell out.
Head coach Ralf Kettemann has indicated that the club will closely monitor the defender’s response to increased training workloads before determining the next stage of his rehabilitation.
The plan is to build up his fitness over the coming weeks, potentially followed by appearances for Paderborn’s Under-21 side to help him regain match sharpness.
Although his return to full training represents an encouraging milestone, a first-team comeback is not expected immediately.
Paderborn must therefore prepare for the trip to Mönchengladbach without the defender as they look to secure a positive result on Saturday.
Awortwie-Grant’s return date remains uncertain, with his progress in training expected to determine when he can finally compete for a place in the senior squad.
