Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has shared an encouraging update on striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who underwent two abdominal surgeries this week following a frightening incident during Forest’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City.
The Nigerian striker collided with a goalpost late in the game and was rushed to the hospital, where he needed immediate surgery. A second procedure was later carried out under an induced coma to help stabilize his heart rate.
Despite the severity of the situation, Nuno remains cautiously optimistic about Awoniyi’s condition.
“He went to surgery and surgery went well, thank God,” Nuno said on Friday.
“He is on observation now. He is recovering. We are concerned but we are positive.
“It has been very difficult on us and on everybody.”
Awoniyi has been an important figure for Forest since his return from injury earlier this season. His absence will be felt both on and off the pitch, but Nuno’s words suggest that the striker is showing signs of progress in his recovery.
