Now it’s time for rest – Morocco’s Nayef Aguerd focused on recovery after surgery

Nayef Aguerd has spoken publicly about the pain he endured for months after undergoing successful surgery to treat a persistent groin injury, marking a crucial step in his recovery.

The Olympique de Marseille defender had been dealing with a pubalgia-related issue for several months before ultimately deciding to proceed with the operation. Following the procedure, the Moroccan international shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, reflecting on the difficult period that led to the decision to undergo surgery.

“Since October, I have been suffering from pain that had become a part of my daily life. From waking up until going to bed, and sometimes even during the night, it had become permanent. Despite all the medical protocols implemented in recent months, it was unfortunately no longer enough. The operation, therefore, became unavoidable.”

Aguerd explained that the decision to undergo surgery had not been an easy one, revealing that he had tried to continue playing while exploring alternative treatment options before finally accepting that the operation was necessary.

“This decision should have been made a while ago, but I wanted to continue and find the best possible solutions before resorting to this.”

The centre back also took the opportunity to express appreciation to the medical professionals who managed the surgery and treatment process, as well as the support he received from his club and teammates during the challenging period.

With the procedure now behind him, Aguerd says his focus has shifted entirely to recovery as he works toward returning to action in the best possible condition.

“Now it’s time for rest and recovery. I hope to be ready in time to help Olympique de Marseille during the final sprint of the season, this time at 100%, without pain.”

He concluded his message by acknowledging the support he received from teammates at both club and national levels throughout the months he struggled with the injury.

“I also thank my teammates on the national team and at OM, who have seen me suffer in recent months and who have supported me a lot,” he said.
