English side Nottingham Forest have stepped up their efforts to sign France-born midfielder of Malian descent, Soungoutou Magassa.
According to sources, the English Premier League club has submitted an improved bid to AS Monaco, hoping to strike a deal to secure the services of the 21-year-old.
The Premier League side initially saw a €12 million offer rejected but have now returned with a new proposal worth €17 million. The offer is reported to include a fixed fee, falling just short of Monaco’s €18 million valuation.
Forest’s latest move comes amid competition from West Ham United, who have tabled a €19 million package comprising a €16 million fixed fee and €3 million in bonuses.
Despite Forest’s bid being slightly lower, Monaco have yet to reject it, keeping negotiations open.
Magassa enjoyed a breakthrough season under Adi Hütter last term, making 31 appearances for Monaco across all competitions.
His performances have also attracted interest from Serie A side AS Roma, although recent developments suggest his next destination could be the Premier League.
