Norwich City sporting director Ben Knapper has praised the signing of Ghana international Jeffrey Schlupp, describing the experienced midfielder as a vital addition to the club’s promotion ambitions.
Schlupp, 32, joined Norwich on a free transfer after ending his eight-year spell at Crystal Palace.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic, making 18 appearances and featuring in a Champions League fixture away to Bayern Munich.
Knapper emphasised that Schlupp’s experience at the top levels of European football will be invaluable to Norwich both on and off the pitch.
“Jeffrey’s career so far speaks for itself and we’re delighted to welcome him and his family to Norwich City,” Knapper said.
“He is a player of immense experience, having played at the highest levels both domestically and internationally for many years.
“His quality, versatility and character will all be great assets for us, and he will serve as a fantastic reference point for our younger players in particular this season.”
Knapper added that Schlupp will offer depth across several positions and bolster the team’s competitiveness as they aim to return to the Premier League.
The former Leicester City man, who won the Premier League title with the Foxes in 2016, said he is eager to get started.
“I’m really excited, it’s something new again but a lot to look forward to back in the Championship at a big club,” Schlupp said.
He confirmed he had already spoken with head coach Liam Manning about the club’s plan for the season and backed Norwich to be among the contenders.
“We want to have a great campaign… to make play-offs and try to get promoted.”
Schlupp said he hopes to settle quickly and contribute meaningfully as the Canaries mount another push for top-flight football.
