North African u-17 championship reschedules Egypt-Libya clash
The North African Football Union has announced a change in the schedule for the final round of the U-17 North African Championship, currently taking place in Morocco.
The decisive matches, originally set for the evening of November 23, will now kick off an hour earlier.
Both fixtures will commence at 6:00 PM Egyptian time (4:00 PM GMT) instead of the previously scheduled 7:00 PM. The adjustment was made for organizational reasons, according to the union.
The revised schedule sees Egypt facing Libya at Père Jégo Stadium in Casablanca, while Algeria takes on hosts Morocco at Al-Bashir Stadium in Mohammedia.
The U-17 North African Championship features five national teams: Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, and Libya.
The top two teams from the tournament will secure qualification for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, which will include 12 teams and serve as a gateway to the U-17 World Cup later that year in Qatar.
Under the guidance of head coach Ahmed Al-Kas, Egypt’s U-17 team currently sits with three points after two matches, having defeated Algeria but falling to Morocco.
Tunisia leads the standings with seven points from three games, while Morocco follows with four points from two matches.
In the upcoming fourth round, Egypt faces a crucial test against Tunisia on Wednesday evening, aiming to bolster their position and secure one of the top two spots needed for AFCON qualification.
The North African Championship has proven to be a competitive battleground for teams vying not only for regional supremacy but also for a chance to shine on the continental and global stages.
