Nordin Amrabat returns to European football with Utrecht after Wydad exit

Nordin Amrabat has returned to European football after Utrecht completed the signing of the 39-year-old Morocco international following his short spell with Wydad.

The Dutch club officially announced the arrival of the experienced winger, bringing Amrabat back to the European game after his recent move to Wydad. His return to Utrecht follows two weeks of training with the first-team squad under manager Anthony Correia.

That period allowed Utrecht to assess Amrabat before deciding to make the move permanent. The club subsequently confirmed the signing of the veteran, who operates primarily as a right winger.

Amrabat’s latest transfer marks another stage in a career that has taken him across several countries and competitions. Before joining Wydad, he played in England for Watford, in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr, in Greece for AEK Athens and also represented Hull City.

His time with Al-Nassr brought two major domestic honours. Amrabat won the Saudi Pro League and the Saudi Super Cup during his spell with the Saudi club.

The move to Utrecht means Amrabat will continue his playing career in Europe after only a brief period with Wydad. He had joined the Moroccan club before making the latest switch to the Netherlands, where he has now been officially registered as a Utrecht player.

At international level, Amrabat represented Morocco 64 times. He was used as a right-sided winger for his country and has also built a reputation through his long club career in England, Saudi Arabia, Greece and the Netherlands.

Utrecht’s decision to sign him came after his training spell with the group led by Correia. Having spent two weeks working with the squad, Amrabat has now secured a return to European football through the Dutch club.

The 39-year-old’s career has therefore come full circle in geographical terms, with his latest destination coming after spells at Watford, Al-Nassr, AEK Athens and Hull City, followed by his short stay at Wydad. His honours from Saudi Arabia and his 64 Morocco appearances form the main landmarks of a career that has now taken him back to the Netherlands.

Utrecht confirmed the deal after completing that assessment period, officially adding Amrabat to its squad. The move gives the veteran winger another opportunity to compete in Europe after his departure from Wydad.
