Noah Fadiga set for possible Senegal national team return
Noah Fadiga, who has been absent from Senegal’s national team since November 2023, could soon be making his return to the squad. The 24-year-old right-back, currently in fine form with Belgian side La Gantoise, is reportedly being considered for selection ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Malawi.
According to reports from Match360, Fadiga’s performances have not gone unnoticed by Senegal’s head coach, Aliou Cissé, who is expected to announce his squad soon.
Despite being called up three times previously, Fadiga is yet to make his senior debut for the Lions of Teranga.
However, his consistent displays this season could earn him a spot in the crucial double-header against Malawi, as Senegal continues its quest for qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
A Promising Season with La Gantoise
Fadiga’s resurgence this season with La Gantoise has been remarkable. Since joining the Belgian club in August 2023, he has quickly established himself as a key player, contributing both defensively and offensively.
In just 15 appearances, the right-back has netted three goals, an impressive feat for a defender. His performances have been integral to La Gantoise’s strong campaign, and his form has sparked renewed interest in his international prospects.
This resurgence comes after a difficult period for Fadiga. In July 2023, while still with Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois, he was forced to part ways with the French club after the French Football Federation (FFF) revoked his playing license due to concerns over irregularities in his heart rate.
The FFF implemented a strict “zero tolerance” policy, leaving Fadiga without a club. However, his determination to return to the pitch led him to Belgium, where he signed with La Gantoise on a free transfer.
Since then, Fadiga has gone from strength to strength, proving himself as a reliable and versatile right-back.
His ability to contribute to both defensive stability and attacking play has made him a standout performer in the Belgian Pro League.
Other Potential Inclusions for Senegal
Alongside Fadiga, other players are also being considered for a call-up to the national team. Cheikh Lô Ndoye, who currently plays for Jaraaf, is one of the names being mentioned for the upcoming fixtures.
Additionally, the possible returns of Krépin Diatta and Boulaye Dia are also being discussed, providing Cissé with a wealth of talent to choose from as Senegal looks to secure its place at AFCON 2025.
With a critical doubleheader against Malawi on the horizon, Senegal will be eager to have its strongest squad available.
As the Lions of Teranga prepare for these important qualifiers, Noah Fadiga’s potential return could be a significant boost, especially given his impressive form in Belgium.
If selected, it would offer Fadiga the opportunity to finally make his senior international debut and continue the proud legacy of his father, Khalilou Fadiga, who was a standout player for Senegal in his time.
