Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau has ruled out any immediate plans to extend the contract of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, despite the team’s strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Chelle, who was appointed in January 2025, endured a challenging start to life on the Super Eagles bench but steadied the ship to guide Nigeria to a third-place finish at the recently concluded AFCON tournament.

The Malian tactician’s impressive run has sparked speculation over his long-term future with the three-time African champions. However, Gusau insists the federation is in no rush to revisit the terms of his deal.

Speaking in an interview with Osasu Obayiuwana, the NFF boss said the current agreement remains firmly in place.

“There will be no contract extension discussion with Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles head coach, for now,” he said.

“We signed a two-year deal with him in January 2025. He is only halfway through his contract. In the last six months of his current deal, we can start to look at things,” he added.

Despite the NFF’s stance, Chelle’s growing reputation has attracted interest from other national teams, with Angola and Gabon reportedly monitoring his situation closely.
