Christopher Nkunku’s career trajectory has taken another twist, as Borussia Dortmund has decided against pursuing the Chelsea forward.
Despite initial interest in a potential loan move, Dortmund has opted to focus on nurturing their young wingers, Julien Duranville and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
Nkunku, 27, made a high-profile switch from RB Leipzig to Chelsea in 2023 but has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge. Hampered by injuries for much of last season, the French-born Congolese striker has yet to regain his dynamic form and is often relegated to the bench.
While Dortmund reportedly held internal discussions about adding Nkunku to their ranks, Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger confirmed the club ultimately pulled back. The decision was strategic Dortmund sees immense potential in Duranville and Bynoe-Gittens and wants to provide them with the platform to shine without overshadowing their development.
For Nkunku, the road back to top form remains open, but it won’t lead through Signal Iduna Park, as Dortmund puts faith in their rising stars over proven marquee talent.
