NK Grobnican bring in Nigeria winger Mathew Peter from NK Cres

Nigeria winger Mathew Peter has joined Croatian club NK Grobnican from NK Cres on a free transfer, completing his move on 20 August 2026.

Peter, 22, plays primarily as a left winger and is the latest step in a series of moves through Croatian football. He joined NK Cres from NK Opatija on a free transfer in August 2025, before switching to Grobnican a year later.

Born in Benin City, Nigeria, Peter stands 1.80m tall and is right-footed. His role on the left side of attack provides the clearest description of his position, while his successive transfers have kept him within the Croatian game since his arrival at NK Opatija.

Peter moved to NK Opatija from Opoja on 5 September 2024, also without a transfer fee. That move marked his first recorded switch to the Croatian club, followed by his transfers to NK Cres and now NK Grobnican.

His move to Grobnican comes ahead of the 2026-27 season and was registered one day before the transfer record was published. The deal represents another change of club for Peter after a single season at NK Cres, where he had arrived from NK Opatija in the same manner.

The Nigerian attacker’s profile is centred on the left wing, with his right foot offering a contrast to his usual position on the field. At 22, Peter joins Grobnican after building his recent career through three free transfers, beginning with his move from Opoja in 2024.
