Toifilou Maoulida Thanks Nîmes Supporters Despite Lower-than-Expected Turnout
Despite the match-fixing scandal clouding the atmosphere at Nîmes, Toifilou Maoulida emphasized the importance of fan support during the club’s 3-3 draw against Le Havre on Friday night at the Stade des Costières.
The 35-year-old striker had hoped for 10,000 spectators to fill the stands for what was the club’s first home game since the scandal broke, but only 6,011 fans turned up.
“It’s true that we expected a little more. But then, maybe the weather… I don’t have all the ins and outs, in terms of the price, etc… But it’s true that we perhaps expected a little more,” Maoulida told RMC.
Despite the lower turnout, the veteran praised those who did show up, stressing their impact:
“As long as they are there, as long as they are present and as long as they push us, that’s the most important thing. They pushed us at the end to equalize. And I think that at the end of the match, the applause proves that we gave everything.”
For Maoulida, the fans’ continued presence and encouragement are what truly count during this turbulent period for the club.
