Nigeria winger Samu Chukwueze has admitted he left AC Milan feeling frustrated, saying he believes he deserved more time and trust during his spell with the Italian giants.
Now representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, the 26-year-old Fulham player spoke candidly about his relationship with Milan, a club he still holds close to his heart despite his disappointment.
“I miss Milan,” Chukwueze told On Sport. “It’s my second home. My family are still there, so of course I miss the city.”
Although he is currently on loan away from the Rossoneri, Chukwueze insists there is no bitterness, adding that he continues to follow the club’s progress closely.
“They are doing well and I wish them all the best,” he said. “I’m still a Milan player, after all, because I’m only on loan.”
However, the Nigeria international believes his time in Serie A did not unfold as he had hoped.
“I don’t think I was given the time or the opportunities I needed,” he added. “But that’s football.”
For now, Chukwueze is focused on helping Nigeria chase continental success in Morocco, using the tournament as a chance to reset and remind the football world of his qualities.
“I just have to keep working,” he said. “Maybe one day I’ll return to Serie A, or La Liga, or stay in the Premier League.”
As Nigeria continue their AFCON campaign, Chukwueze’s reflections offer a glimpse into a player determined to turn frustration into motivation, both for club and country.
