Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) has held a closed-door meeting with Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle in an attempt to renew his contract following an impressive campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chelle’s current contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to expire in early 2027, prompting the NSC to swiftly engage the trainer over a new deal in order to secure continuity and build on the progress recorded under his leadership.
Africasoccer.com understands the NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko met with Chelle at his office on Tuesday in Abuja amid growing speculation about his future.
The Franco-Malian tactician has attracted interest from several national teams on the African continent including Algeria. To ward off interest, the NSC has embarked on a serious contract extension talks with Chelle.
“We have a list of many things we want to achieve in 2026, and extending Chelle’s contract is also on that list… He’s not going anywhere because he’s happy here,” NSC Director General Bukola Olopade said.
Chelle, who took charge of the Nigeria in January 2024 oversaw a highly productive AFCON campaign in Morocco, where the Super Eagles finished third at the end of the AFCON tournament in Morocco.
The Super Eagles delivered an eye-catching attacking display, scoring 35 goals and conceding just 13, while setting a new tournament benchmark with 14 goals in a single AFCON edition. Chelle’s side also kept four clean sheets and completed the tournament unbeaten, underlining both their offensive firepower and defensive organization.
