AC Milan are closing in on the signing of Nigerian international Victor Boniface, with the forward expected to undergo a medical today ahead of completing a loan deal that includes a €30 million purchase option.
Boniface, 24, has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after attacking talents following his impressive performances in the Bundesliga.
His pending move to Milan marks a significant step in his career, with the Italian giants positioning him as a key part of their attacking plans.
Former Nigeria international Peter Odemwingie believes the transfer represents a defining moment for the striker.
Speaking to Footy-Africa, Odemwingie praised Boniface’s progress and expressed confidence that he would thrive in Serie A.
“I think this is a huge opportunity for Victor,” Odemwingie said. “He’s proven himself in Germany through his goals and work ethic, but Milan is a different challenge, a club where expectations are always high.
Playing in Serie A will test him tactically, technically, and mentally, and I believe this move will only make him stronger.”
Boniface has been one of the standout performers in Germany, attracting interest from several European clubs. His blend of physicality, sharp movement, and instinctive finishing has made him a valuable asset for Bayer Leverkusen, and Milan’s interest underlines his growing reputation on the continent.
Odemwingie, who represented West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City, and Stoke City during his Premier League career, believes Boniface’s fearless style of play makes him well-suited for the challenges ahead.
“Victor is powerful, lively, and always hungry for goals,” Odemwingie added. “What impresses me most is his mentality. He plays without fear and with incredible determination.
Milan’s system will suit him perfectly, and with the passionate backing of their supporters, I expect him to become one of their standout players.”
The 24-year-old striker has risen rapidly over the past few seasons, showcasing his ability to perform at the highest level. His performances in the Bundesliga and European competitions have made him a key figure for Leverkusen and an increasingly important player for Nigeria’s national team.
Milan’s decision to pursue Boniface reflects their strategy of building a young and dynamic squad capable of challenging domestically and in Europe. If the deal is finalised,
Boniface will join a long list of Nigerian footballers who have represented the Rossoneri, adding further intrigue to the move.
Negotiations over the structure of the deal have been ongoing for several weeks, with Milan ultimately settling on a loan agreement that allows them to secure Boniface’s services permanently for €30 million.
His imminent arrival is expected to strengthen Milan’s attacking depth as they continue to compete on multiple fronts.
Boniface’s move comes amid widespread interest in his signature, but Odemwingie is confident that Milan is the right destination. “He can impose himself anywhere,” Odemwingie concluded. “This is a club that will challenge him, and I believe Victor will rise to the occasion.”
The Nigerian striker’s medical is scheduled for later today, with an official announcement from Milan expected shortly thereafter.
