Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi dismisses report of pushing to leave Nottingham Forest

Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi has dismissed reports suggesting that he is pushing to leave Nottingham Forest.

The bulky striker has made 17 league appearances mostly as a substitute and scoring a goal in the process as the club sits in an impressive 3rd position on 44 points.

The 27-year-old has been linked to several clubs in the ongoing winter transfer due to lack of playing time following persistent injuries with West Ham leading the race for the signature of the striker.

“Transfers are part of football, and there will always be speculation. But my focus is entirely on Nottingham Forest,” Awoniyi told Sportsboom.

“This is a team with a lot of potential, and I want to be here to help achieve something special. I’m not thinking about leaving; I’m thinking about how I can contribute more to the success of this club. I’ve spoken with the coaches and they’ve been very supportive. They see me as an important part of the squad even if I’m not starting regularly.” Awoniyi explained.

“They’ve emphasised the importance of staying ready and being a team player. It’s reassuring to know that they value what I bring to the table, and it pushes me to keep giving my best.”

Awoniyi will hope to get back to the starting line up when Nottingham Forest play as guests to Bournemouth on Saturday, January 25.
