Galatasaray vice-president Abdullah Kavukcu has revealed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen turned down a staggering financial offer from Saudi Arabia in order to complete a permanent move to the Turkish giants.
Osimhen, who officially joined Galatasaray after a loan spell during the 2024–25 campaign, departed Napoli at the end of his five-year contract.
The Istanbul-based club made his signing permanent ahead of the new season, a move that Kavukcu says demonstrates the forward’s commitment to sporting ambition over financial gain.
Speaking to Turkish media during a press conference on Friday, Kavukcu underlined just how significant the 25-year-old’s sacrifice was.
“We never compromised our stance, and we showed our strength,” he said. “Thank God, we signed Victor without creating any future debt. This is a huge source of pride for all of us.”
According to the Galatasaray executive, Osimhen had lucrative opportunities to move to Saudi Arabia but opted instead for a return to Turkey.
“Think about it: it’s hard to express, but the amount Victor sacrificed to come here is truly enormous,” Kavukcu added. “He sacrificed an amount no other player would ever have, and we’re happy to have him on board.”
The Nigerian international first arrived at Galatasaray on a season-long loan in 2024, quickly becoming a central figure in the squad.
His performances impressed both supporters and club officials, paving the way for a full transfer once his contract with Napoli expired.
Kavukcu noted that the club has handled the deal responsibly from a financial perspective, stating that Osimhen’s contract has been recorded as capital in the club’s accounts.
“On the contrary, we have recorded Victor’s contract as capital in Galatasaray’s coffers,” he said, indicating the financial prudence behind the operation.
Osimhen’s decision to snub higher-paying options in favour of Galatasaray reflects his desire to play at a high competitive level, rather than simply chasing monetary reward.
His commitment is likely to endear him even further to the Galatasaray faithful, who already view him as a vital addition to their side.
The Nigerian striker’s journey has been marked by consistent development and success, and his recent decision reinforces his reputation as a player who values legacy and footballing challenge over personal enrichment.
At a time when many footballers are lured by astronomical wages in emerging leagues, Osimhen’s choice to return to Galatasaray stands out.
With the new season approaching, expectations will be high for Osimhen to replicate the form he showed during his loan. His permanent arrival represents both a statement of intent by Galatasaray and a personal testament to the player’s values and aspirations.
Osimhen’s move marks a significant moment for the Turkish club, which continues to build its squad with players who are not only talented but committed to its long-term vision.
