Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho debuted with a goal for Celtic on Sunday afternoon, sealing a dramatic 2-1 victory for the side against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

The former Sevilla striker, who joined the Scottish champions on a one-year deal, came off the bench to make the difference after a tense battle.

Celtic had taken the lead in the 57th minute through Daizen Maeda, but Kilmarnock hit back in the 83rd when young midfielder David Watson headed in the equaliser.

With the game heading for a draw, a VAR review awarded Celtic a penalty for handball against Lewis Mayo. Iheanacho stepped up and calmly converted, handing Brendan Rodgers’ side all three points and preserving their unbeaten start to the season.

Celtic now turns their attention to the League Cup, where they face Partick Thistle on September 21.

Iheanacho will be hoping to start that game after his match-winning strike against Kilmarnock.
