Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has hinted that teenage forward Chido Obi-Martin could be in line for his Premier League debut after his recent outstanding performances at youth level.
The 17-year-old Danish talent, who was born in Nigeria, has been making waves in United’s youth ranks.
This week, he further underlined his potential by netting a hat-trick against Chelsea’s U18 side in the FA Youth Cup, a competition that has historically showcased future first-team stars.
Following his impressive display, Obi-Martin has been promoted to first-team training, a move that Amorim confirmed ahead of United’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
“It’s very simple for us: if we want something in the transfer market this summer, we will have to sell first,” Amorim said. “My goal is to prepare the players who are here now.”
His comments suggest that the club is looking to integrate young talents into the senior squad rather than making immediate signings.
This approach could pave the way for Obi-Martin to get his first taste of top-flight football.
The teenager signed his first professional contract with Manchester United last year and has continued to impress with his goal-scoring exploits.
His latest performances have increased speculation that he may soon make the step up to the senior squad, especially given Amorim’s focus on developing young talent.
With United’s season entering a crucial phase, it remains to be seen when Obi-Martin will get his first-team opportunity.
However, his rapid progression and Amorim’s faith in youth suggest that his Premier League debut might not be far away.
