Another Nigerian coach has departed the Nigeria Premier Football League to take up a managerial role in Benin, with former Kwara United head coach Tunde Sanni confirmed as the new man in charge of Jeunesse Sportive de Pobè.

His move follows the recent appointment of Salisu Yusuf at Coton FC, underlining a growing trend of Nigerian technical staff crossing into the Beninese top flight as clubs seek to strengthen their competitiveness.

Sanni, a former Kwara United player who later coached both ABS Ilorin FC and Kwara United, has now officially taken up duties with the Pobè-based side.

According to reports by Complete Sports, he becomes the second prominent Nigerian coach currently working in Benin’s Premier League.

The task awaiting him is substantial.

Jeunesse Sportive de Pobè endured a difficult 2024/2025 campaign, finishing 14th in an 18-team league.

The club managed just three wins and seven draws from 17 matches, collecting 16 points in total.

The figures reflect a season marked by inconsistency and struggles near the lower end of the table.

Club officials are now looking to Sanni’s experience within Nigerian football to stabilise performances and guide the team towards a more secure position in the upcoming campaign.

His familiarity with competitive league environments is seen as a key asset as JSP aim to avoid a repeat of last season’s difficulties.

The appointment has been formally confirmed.

Speaking by telephone on Tuesday evening, Sanni acknowledged his new role.

“Yes, I am now in the Republic of Benin with Jeunesse Sportive de Pobè. I am grateful to God for this opportunity,” Tunde Sanni told Complete Sports, ending the conversation shortly afterward.

While details regarding the length of his contract and financial terms have not been disclosed, documents formalising the agreement were signed on Tuesday.

The move signals JSP’s intent to draw on Nigerian coaching expertise as they attempt to rebuild and improve their standing in the Beninese Premier League.
