Nigeria to host CAF General Assembly and CAF Awards in October
Nigeria is set to host two of African football’s most significant events later this year, after confirmation that the country will stage the 48th Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ordinary General Assembly as well as the CAF Awards in October.
The announcement follows high-level discussions between CAF President Patrice Motsepe and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who met in Nairobi during the Africa Forward Summit to deliberate on the future of football development on the continent.
Their meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between governments and football authorities, with particular emphasis on investment from the private sector to accelerate the growth of the game across Africa.
Nigeria’s selection as host reflects CAF’s continued push to rotate major events across member associations while deepening institutional ties with national governments.
The October gathering is expected to bring together top football administrators, stakeholders, and delegates from across the continent.
The CAF Awards ceremony, which traditionally honours Africa’s best players, coaches, and teams, will also form part of the landmark week, adding further prestige to Nigeria’s hosting duties.
Discussions in Nairobi also touched on broader development issues, including infrastructure, youth football, and commercial partnerships aimed at making African football more competitive on the global stage.
With preparations now underway, attention will turn to Nigeria’s readiness to welcome the continent’s football leadership for what is expected to be a defining moment on the African football calendar.
