Taribo West believes Wilfred Ndidi is destined to return to the Premier League or join one of Europe’s top clubs, despite Leicester City’s fall from grace.
The Nigerian legend spoke confidently about the future of the Leicester midfielder, suggesting a transfer is imminent in the next window.
“I don’t see him staying at Leicester in the Championship, despite his loyalty to the club,” West said, as speculation intensifies around Ndidi’s next destination.
Leicester’s relegation to the Championship has not gone unnoticed by Europe’s elite, with the Nigerian international continuing to attract interest from clubs including Crystal Palace and Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
Although a January move did not materialise, the summer could see renewed bids for the 28-year-old.
Ndidi, whose current contract runs until June 2027, has been a central figure at the King Power Stadium since his arrival from Belgian side Genk during the 2016/17 season.
Over the past nine years, he has clocked 289 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing 21 assists—contributions that have made him a fixture in the Foxes’ midfield and a fan favourite.
A source close to Wonder Sports, the agency representing Ndidi, confirmed that Monaco’s winter interest was genuine.
“Monaco contacted us, as did Leicester. They were serious in their approach and ready to submit an offer. But Leicester considers Ndidi a key part of their squad. We did not contest their decision, out of respect for the club, and we also believe it was a sensible choice.
Ndidi has been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury in Leicester’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in December, forcing him off in the 52nd minute.
However, there are hopes he could return to action this Saturday as the Foxes face Everton—an encounter crucial to their survival hopes.
Leicester currently sit 17th in the Premier League, just outside the relegation zone, with 17 points from 23 matches under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Their upcoming clash against Ipswich Town on matchday 37 could prove pivotal. Odds from betting firm 1xbet place Leicester as slight favourites at 2.25, with a draw at 3.40 and Ipswich victory at 2.87.
While Leicester’s immediate focus remains on survival, Ndidi’s long-term future appears increasingly uncertain. With top European clubs circling and a proven track record at the highest level, a move away from the King Power Stadium seems inevitable.
