Stephen Keshi has officially been reappointed as the head coach of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, after signing a new two-year contract with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
Keshi, 53, first took charge in November 2011 and led Nigeria to victory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations held in South Africa. His previous contract expired during last year’s World Cup, where Nigeria was eliminated in the round of 16.
Amaju Pinnick, president of the NFF, announced that the federation’s executive committee approved the technical committee’s recommendation to retain Keshi. Pinnick expressed confidence in Keshi’s abilities and called for nationwide support for the coach and the team moving forward.
Despite Nigeria’s recent 0-1 friendly loss to Uganda, the Super Eagles have a chance to bounce back in their next friendly match against South Africa in three days. Pinnick highlighted that it took three months to finalize Keshi’s contract and emphasized the importance of media and public backing to ensure better results this time around.
