Nigeria international Victor Boniface is set to undergo surgery to correct knee surgery he sustained at training in early December.
Boniface, on loan at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen picked up an injury setback at training and has since not featured for Werder Bremen in the ongoing campaign.
The Nigerian striker, who has been advised to go undergo surgery now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
His parent club, Leverkusen and Werder Bremen are now carefully weighing the next steps, and looking to align on a clear treatment and recovery plan before the Christmas break.
Boniface’s injury history adds to the concern. The forward has previously endured two cruciate ligament injuries, and another knee operation could rule him out for the rest of the current campaign.
The Nigeria attacker has endured a difficult loan spell at Werder Bremen since the commencement, failing to score in his first eleven games for the German outfit.
After eleven games, the 25-year-old attacker has only managed two assists for Bremen, sparking concerns among the club fans.
