Nigeria international Victor Boniface has hinted about the possibility of missing the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.

Boniface has endured a difficult spell since joining Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

The Nigeria star is currently on an 11-game goal drought, a slump that has raised questions about his form and match readiness ahead of the continental tournament.

Despite being named in Eric Chelle’s 54-man provisional lists, Boniface’s latest comments suggest he is unlikely to make the final 23-man roster for the impending tournament.

Boniface in a conversation with his Werder Bremen teammate, Felix Agu offered encouragement to the latter ahead of the tournament, signaling his potential AFCON miss.

“Fine boy, getting ready for AFCON,” Boniface said to Agu. “You go next week? Good luck, I wish you all the best, my guy.”

The 35th edition of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has been scheduled to take place in Morocco between December 2025 and January 2026, with 24 countries set to battle it out for the covetous trophy.
