Nigeria star Samuel Chukwueze set for AC Milan return after Fulham decline €24m purchase option
Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze is expected to return to AC Milan after Fulham FC reportedly decided against activating the €24 million option to make his move permanent.
The 27-year-old winger spent the season on loan in the Premier League as he looked to rediscover his best form following a difficult period in Serie A. Despite producing flashes of brilliance and adapting steadily to the demands of English football, Fulham have chosen not to proceed with a full transfer deal.
Chukwueze finished the campaign with three goals and four assists across all competitions, contributing important moments during Fulham’s domestic run. While his numbers were modest, the Nigerian attacker showed glimpses of the pace, creativity, and direct attacking style that made him one of Europe’s most exciting wide players during his time at Villarreal CF.
The former Villarreal star arrived in England hoping to revive a career that had stalled somewhat at AC Milan. Competition for places and inconsistency limited his impact in Italy, prompting the Rossoneri to sanction a temporary move away in search of regular playing time.
Although Fulham manager Marco Silva handed Chukwueze opportunities throughout the season, the London side are understood to be prioritising other transfer targets ahead of the new campaign. The club’s decision means the winger will now return to Milanello, where discussions over his long-term future are expected to take place this summer.
Chukwueze remains highly regarded for his technical quality and experience at the top level. His ability to operate on either flank, combined with his pace in one-on-one situations, could still make him an attractive option for clubs across Europe.
For AC Milan, the Nigerian’s return presents both an opportunity and a dilemma. The Serie A giants must now decide whether to reintegrate him into their squad plans or listen to offers from interested clubs during the transfer window.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, Chukwueze will also be eager to secure consistent playing time to strengthen his position within the Nigeria national football team setup.
The coming weeks could therefore prove decisive in shaping the next chapter of the winger’s career as he prepares for another crucial summer of uncertainty and opportunity.
