Remo Stars will be officially crowned Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions during a special trophy presentation ceremony at their home ground in Ikenne on Sunday, May 11, following their penultimate league fixture against Ikorodu City.
The Sky Blue Stars, managed by Daniel Ogunmodede, secured their maiden league title with a narrow 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes — a result that confirmed their position at the summit of the NPFL table with two matches to spare.
The upcoming ceremony will mark a significant moment in the club’s history as they lift the championship trophy for the first time in front of their home supporters.
Originally set for a 4 p.m. kickoff, the match has now been rescheduled to begin an hour earlier at 3 p.m.
The decision, confirmed by NPFL Director of Operations Davidson Owumi, was made to prioritise the safety of both fans and dignitaries travelling to the venue.
“There will obviously be a lot of fans from both clubs coming from Lagos for this match. In addition, dignitaries will be arriving through Lagos, and it is better for them to return in daylight for security reasons,” Owumi said.
The celebratory fixture is expected to draw a large crowd, with supporters eager to witness their team lift the league title in a festive atmosphere.
The NPFL has been working closely with local organisers to ensure a smooth and secure event, recognising the importance of the occasion for the club and Nigerian football at large.
Remo Stars’ rise to the top of the domestic league has been characterised by tactical discipline, consistency, and strong team spirit under Ogunmodede’s guidance.
The club’s success has been widely celebrated, particularly by fans in Ogun State, who have followed their journey from promotion hopefuls to national champions.
While Sunday’s match against Ikorodu City may be routine in terms of league standings, the occasion carries enormous emotional weight for players, staff, and supporters alike.
The official handover of the trophy will symbolise the culmination of a season’s hard work and resilience.
As the final whistle blows at Remo Stars Stadium, a new chapter in Nigerian football history will be written — one that places the Sky Blue Stars firmly among the elite clubs of the NPFL.
