President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a series of generous rewards for Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their triumphant campaign at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Super Falcons secured their record-extending 10th WAFCON title on Saturday, staging a dramatic comeback to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 in the final.
To celebrate their historic achievement, President Tinubu has conferred national honours on all 24 players and the 11-member technical crew, bestowing upon them the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
In addition to the national recognition, each player will receive a cash reward of $100,000, while members of the technical team will take home $50,000 each. Furthermore, the President has approved the allocation of three-bedroom apartments to all team members under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.
“I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger. Additionally, I have directed the allocation of three-bedroom apartments and a cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each of the 24 players and $50,000 to each technical staff member,” Tinubu announced.
Meanwhile, four Super Falcons stars—Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie—have been named in the WAFCON Team of the Tournament, further highlighting Nigeria’s dominance at the continental showpiece.
