The Nigerian government, under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan, has pledged to pay five months of overdue salary owed to national coach Stephen Keshi. The payment, totaling 78 million naira (approximately 357,000 euros), was confirmed by Nigerian Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi. Keshi, who led the Super Eagles to victory in the African Cup and qualification for the 2014 World Cup, had not received a salary for over five months. The president’s approval facilitated the settlement of the outstanding wages, which had been a point of contention for the coach.
