Nigeria has moved ahead of Egypt to become the national team with the highest number of medals in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations after claiming the bronze medal at the 2025 edition of the tournament.
Egypt now sits second on the list in terms of total medals won.
The Super Eagles claimed the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after edging past Egypt on penalties, following a goalless draw at the end of regulation time.
That result proved significant, as it pushed Nigeria ahead of the Pharaohs in the overall medals ranking at the tournament.
Nigeria now tops the list of teams with the most Africa Cup of Nations medals, having accumulated 17 in total. Despite this milestone, Egypt remains the most decorated team in the competition’s history in terms of titles won, with seven championships secured in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
Cameroon follows Egypt in the all-time winners’ chart, with five Africa Cup of Nations titles, the most recent coming in 2017. Nigeria, while leading the medals count, has won three AFCON titles, alongside five silver medals and nine bronze finishes, reflecting consistent deep runs across multiple editions.
Egypt has amassed 13 medals in total, made up of seven gold, three silver and three bronze. Ghana sits next with 10 medals, including four titles, while Cameroon and Ivory Coast have each collected nine medals over the course of their AFCON histories.
Later tonight, Senegal and Morocco will lock horns in the final of AFCON 2025.
