Nigeria has secured a spot among the final three shortlisted teams for the prestigious 2023 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s National Team of the Year award.
The official announcement of the final three shortlisted countries—Nigeria, reigning champions South Africa, and Morocco—was revealed by CAF on Thursday via their official social media platform.
These nations, including Nigeria, Morocco, and South Africa, showcased their prowess in the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. Each team made a commendable journey to the round of 16 in the tournament, ultimately claimed by Spain.
The eventual winner of the Women’s National Team of the Year award will be unveiled during the ceremony scheduled for Monday, December 11, set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco.
Amidst this recognition, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have recently solidified their berth in the 2024 WAFCON, an event hosted by Morocco. Their emphatic 7-1 aggregate victory over Cape Verde has secured the Falcons’ participation in the tournament, marking their 13th appearance since its inception in 1998, which notably took place in Nigeria.
This acknowledgment comes as a testament to Nigeria’s consistent excellence in women’s football and their commendable performances on the international stage. The Super Falcons’ qualification further underlines their commitment and strength in continuing to be a dominant force in African women’s football.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming award ceremony in Marrakech, the spotlight remains on the remarkable achievements and contributions of these esteemed African teams to the global women’s football landscape.
