Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi targeted by Premier League clubs following Leicester relegation

Wilfred Ndidi is on the verge of completing a transfer to Turkish giants Besiktas, with personal terms close to being finalised, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Nigerian international midfielder is expected to travel to Istanbul in the coming days to undergo a medical ahead of signing a three-year deal, which includes an option for a fourth.

The 28-year-old’s move comes after Besiktas had their £8.3 million bid accepted by Leicester City, despite the Foxes’ relegation-triggered release clause for Ndidi being set at £9 million.

The Turkish Super Lig side, now under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, have prioritised Ndidi’s signing as a key part of their midfield overhaul.

Ndidi made 30 appearances for Leicester during the 2024/25 campaign, contributing one goal and five assists as the club fought unsuccessfully to retain their Premier League status.

His exit from the King Power Stadium marks the end of an eight-year spell with the Foxes, during which he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent defensive midfielders.

Besiktas have reportedly moved ahead of Real Betis and fellow Turkish side Fenerbahce in the race for Ndidi’s signature, with the final details between the player and Leicester now being resolved.

Once cleared, Ndidi will complete the switch and join up with his new teammates as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Solskjaer is said to view the Nigerian as a vital addition to his squad, valuing his ball-winning ability, tactical discipline, and experience at the top level.

With European football on the horizon for Besiktas, Ndidi’s arrival is expected to provide immediate stability in midfield and leadership in a side seeking to reclaim domestic dominance.
