Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi disappointed after Fulham’s narrow defeat to Manchester City
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has expressed his displeasure following Fulham’s narrow defeat to Manchester City on home turf.
The Cottagers entered the match buoyed by back-to-back league wins but were stunned as Manchester City raced to a 5–1 lead by the 55th minute.
Iwobi sparked a comeback two minutes later, firing a low shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma. Substitute Samuel Chukwueze then dragged Fulham back into the contest, scoring twice as Marco Silva’s men pushed for an unlikely result.
Despite the spirited rally, Fulham could not complete the turnaround as the game ended 5-4 for Manchester City.
“I feel disappointed because we didn’t get anything out of the fighting spirit that we showed… we have to take the positivity from the game,” he said. He added that although the team “showed that fighting spirit in the second half… unfortunately, there’s nothing to show for it.”
Iwobi revealed that Silva urged the players at halftime to stay focused and “do it for the fans,” who he praised for their unrelenting support. “We fed off the fans… it was as if we had a 12th member on the pitch,” he said.
He also highlighted the impact of Chukwueze, who has quickly become a fan favourite. “His nickname at the training ground is Chukwu-magic… he pulls off some crazy stuff,” Iwobi said, urging his teammate to “stay consistent.”
Fulham now turn their attention to Crystal Palace in a London derby. “It’s another game and another opportunity to play right… hopefully, we get something against them,” Iwobi said.
