Nigerian striker Michael Eneramo is expressing his disappointment at not receiving a call-up to the Super Eagles, despite an impressive season with his Turkish club, Sivasspor, where he netted 15 goals. The former Esperance de Tunis player, who claimed the title of “top scorer of the season” in the Turkish D1 league, feels overlooked by national team coach Stephen Keshi.
Voicing his frustration on the matter, Eneramo, in an interview with the BBC, shared, “I am very disappointed to have been overlooked. I still wonder what I have to do to be part of his choices.” He acknowledged the presence of talented players and high-quality strikers in the team but emphasized the importance of equal opportunities for all players to showcase their talents.
Having made 11 appearances for the Super Eagles and scoring four times, Eneramo’s last outing with the national team was two years ago in Calabar, Nigeria, against Madagascar. Despite his contributions, he faces tough competition in a crowded striker lineup that includes the likes of Ikechukwu Uche, Peter Odemwingie, Emmanuel Emenike, and Ideye Brown—Keshi’s preferred choices.
While aware of the fierce competition, Eneramo remains hopeful for another chance to represent Nigeria. He acknowledged the abundance of quality strikers in the country but expressed confidence in his ability, stating, “Nigeria is blessed with classy strikers, but I am sure I can bring a lot to the table as well. I will continue to work in my corner while hoping that luck will smile on me soon.”
Despite interest from other prominent Turkish clubs like Bursaspor and Trabzonspor, Eneramo recently extended his contract with Sivasspor for another year. He conveyed his contentment with the team, stating, “I really like this team. I feel good at Sivasspor, that’s why I didn’t hesitate to sign. When you feel good somewhere, you have to stay there. I want to grow and achieve great things with this club.” Eneramo eagerly awaits Keshi’s next squad announcement, hopeful for a chance to contribute to the Super Eagles once again.
