Nigeria FA congratulates Samson Adamu after permanent CAF General Secretary appointment
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Samson Adamu following his confirmation as the substantive General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), describing his appointment as a significant achievement for Nigerian football.
Adamu’s confirmation on Thursday marks a historic milestone, as he becomes the first Nigerian to occupy the influential position in CAF’s 70-year history.
His elevation represents another major step in his football administration career, having initially joined the Cairo-based continental governing body as Director of Competitions before progressing to the position of Acting General Secretary.
The appointment has attracted positive reactions from Nigerian football authorities, with the NFF expressing confidence in Adamu’s experience and ability to contribute meaningfully to the administration and development of the game across Africa.
Reacting to the development, NFF Acting General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON described the confirmation as exciting news for the country, praising Adamu’s knowledge, professionalism and commitment to improving himself in football administration.
“This is, indeed, very good news. I am so happy for Samson Adamu on his confirmation and I know he is going to make Nigeria and Africa proud. He is a highly-knowledgeable individual who has never stopped improving himself, and he is well-rounded in the business of football administration.
“The NFF is delighted and very pleased with this appointment, and we will give him all the necessary support as a Member Association under CAF. We wish him tremendous success in the job,” Ikpeme said.
The Nigerian federation further pledged its support for Adamu as he takes on the responsibility of overseeing CAF’s administrative operations and working with its leadership to advance African football.
As General Secretary, Adamu will play an important role in coordinating the organisation’s day-to-day administration, competitions and institutional activities while working closely with CAF’s leadership and member associations.
His appointment is also a notable moment for Nigeria, strengthening the country’s representation within the administrative structure of African football.
The NFF’s congratulatory message reflects the pride surrounding Adamu’s achievement, with the federation hopeful that his experience and understanding of the game will serve both Nigeria and the wider African football community.
